Too little quilting often lowers the value of your quilt. Very often a collective sigh can be heard throughout the Quilt Barn during registration...a beautiful quilt and too little quilting leaving large open spaces. Very often, those spaces are "pouffie" and take away from the beauty, ruining the chances of that quilt being judged into the top 24 winners. Those open spaces would be so pretty with the texture of quilt stitches. Just look to the quilters at the Kutztown Folk Festival. We have the finest example of women (some men too) who work as teams to create and finish their products...gorgeous quilts. Each person contributes according to their special abilities and earn financial rewards as well as self-esteem through their accomplishments. Some of our quilters are great planners, designers and organizers; others excel at cutting and piecing. Those who handle the needle to creat fine quilt stitches are admired for their ability.<br /><br />Consider participating? Let's see....you took a class and started a phenomenal quilt that will no longer work anywhere in your home. You already have more quilts than you can use. You would like to convert mountains of fabric into cash!<br />For approximately one week prior to the festival there is a registration process. Pre-register and bring your work at the allotted time. We are looking for traditional and contemporary quilt designs exhibiting careful construction techniques, quality fabrics in current and exciting colors and patterns. Each year quilters from the region of southeastern PA submit their quilts into our competition. There are anywhere from 1500-2200 quilts submitted each year. Judges select the top 24 quilts (bed size) out of all of the quilts submitted. On the second Saturday of the festival an auction takes places.
